Hello and welcome to another monthly update!
Big changes are coming to Stellar Rats: After much consideration, and conversations with my mentor and other trusted and valued breeders, I have decided to shelf my mentors’ marten line for the forseeable future. It comes with a heavy heart, and I truly love martens with my whole heart and I want to continue the incredible work my mentor had done with her line.
However, after much consideration, and with the appearance of a third tiny eyed baby (Oz), I decided to put the line on hold until I can import new martens and/or tonkinese dwarf carriers or dwarfs from a joint project by Blue Stone Siamese Rattery & Simply Southern Rattery.
This reason, combined with worsening chronic health symptoms for myself mean my spoons are increasingly limited and I need to also take my time and health into consideration so I can give my rats the very best version of myself that I can then pass onto my valued adopters.
On that note, I will have a handful of amazing, lovely young adult rats who will be looking for new hammocks in the near future (on strict pet-only contracts). Priority will go to previous adopters, but I will expand the net to new adopters as well later this month. I’ve grown to really love so many of these wonderful rats and am hoping to find them the perfect new families who will spoil them tremendously. Reach out if you’re interested.
Switching gears, having 29 babies who are approaching four weeks old is certainly an experience! Their eyes wide open and they’re causing beautiful mayhem and chaos, and exhausting their poor mothers’ something fierce 😉 They’re eating everything under the sun (we lovingly call this the “locust phase,” lol) and testing their physicality and boundaries….
This week, we’ll be having big group play dates of all 29 babies in my bath tub for a week or so until they are separated by sex and move up into grow out cages with responsible babysitters – and their mama’s get a well deserved break and vacation… for a few weeks at least! All three mama’s will be available for adoption either as a duo, trio, or combo with some baby girls.
I’m just locking in which babies we’re keeping here at Stellar Rats for our program- then offering choices to my mentor, as well as my partner and her mentor. Once those choices are made and locked in, reservations will open to my waitlist first. I have two potential adopters waiting to choose their girls, but as of this writing, I will have many, many boys available for those who’d like to take them!
