Hello and welcome to the first of a series of weekly update posts to let the public know what’s happening here at Stellar Rattery <3
First off, a few weeks ago we welcomed back two elderly old men from our very first litter we produced (the Star Wars litter), and are humbled and honoured to offer hospice care to these two friendly boys in their twilight time. Formerly called Boba Fett & Mando/Din Djarin, they’re now called Poe & Kenji, and we welcomed them back when their owner was no longer able to care for them. They were quarantined for 2 weeks and then introduced to our eldest male, Kraken (from the Cryptids litter), and after a rocky start, they are fast friends and existing happily in my SFN cage in the living room where the trio is spoiled with leftover dinners my son doesn’t finish, and plenty of out-of-cage time chilling on the couch with us in the afternoons, watching tv and snoozing happily, cozied up in their favourite blanket as provided from their previous owner.
Secondly, I did reintroductions of a young girl Ashe from the FF2 litter back to be integrated with her mom Luna, Wildfire, and her sister Garnet, and have listed Ashe & Garnet as available for adoption. Ashe was being held back to be adopted with another group of girls but the adopter changed her mind so Ashe is reacquainted with her sister after a few weeks apart and I hope they’ll find a forever hammock soon!
Third, the Starbucks litter are developing beautifully! As of today, they’re 8 days old and just wonderful. Looks like all 4 surviving kits are girls, and I’m just thrilled and over the moon with excitement. One of the girls, Vanilla Bean Frappuccino, suffered from her mama’s overzealous post-birth cleanup which saw her lose the majority of her tail. Thankfully, it does not affect her at all, and she should develop just fine and never realize she is disabled in any way. We will be keeping Bean here at the rattery, and monitoring her development closely as she grows up.
There will be no public availability with the Starbucks litter: 2 kits will be kept by me to carry on the line here; one girl will go to my partner, Jen, at Bewitched Rattery in Brampton, and the fourth (called Pecan Oat Cortado) will go to my mentor for her personal mischief. Decisions are still being made about who will get either Pumpkin Spiced Latte or Caramel Macchiato between myself and Jen to add to our respective breeding programs 🙂
Fourth, I’ve moved our three female keepers from the FF2 litter: Hilda, Lenna, and Rude, to bunk with Alisaie & Tornado for the time being in an effort to reduce the number of rats per cage for my split level DCN. While breeders usually keep a slightly higher number of crowding per cage than the recommended pet-only numbers, I don’t want to crowd my cages unnecessarily, and with the adoption of Blue, Maroilles, and Brie last week, it did open up space in my tall pawhut cage for the 3 younger girls to move and they’ve all adjusted beautifully to the change.
At lastly, STL Bandit has been busy! He was paired with BSS Thelma & BSS Louise for a week, and mating seems to have been successful, with both girls gaining around 40g while paired in the medbay! Party of that may be unlimited access to yummy foods, but also I believe both sisters are pregnant!! Thus, Bandit has been returned to the SCN with a swarming hoard of young FF2 & Ladybug boys, as well as STL Dovedale, to go back to doing whatever it is crazy boy rats do 😉
The incoming litters from BSS Thelma & BSS Louise are highly anticipated!! DM or email me to get on the waitlist for these litters, there are already reservations in place so grab your spot ASAP. These litters will be high-marked black and RB, top ear and dumbo, with very high possibility for dwarfs.
