June Update

Hello there and welcome to June! Things have been fairly busy here at the rattery, and let’s get into a bit of what we’ve been up to:

First and unfortunately, our pairing of BSS Audrey x WTCH McSir was unsuccessful. So after we were sure there were no surprise babies to be, we went ahead and paired her sister BSS Marilyn to McSir and that pairing seems to have caught! Crossing fingers and toes for some beautiful summer solstice babies; we’re expecting some amazing markings from these two and I cannot wait to see what they produce!

Secondly, we recently lost our old man Kenji. We’d taken him and his brother Boba back from their adopter when she found herself in a terrible situation, and for the last ~6 months we’ve held onto these old men dearly and they were spoiled and fawned over. Brothers from my very first litter produced here at Stellar Rats (back when we were called Umbrella Rattery!), I am heartbroken to lose them both, with Boba leaving us several weeks ago and last night Kenji joined him over the rainbow bridge. Fly high, gentlemen.

Next, with the back-to-back heatwaves, we’ve been managing the best we can with keeping everyone safe and cool. Ice packs under terracotta pot covers are our go to, and ice water sticks in the rats’ water bottles, changed out regularly.

And lastly, my darling heart rat Damsel had her second litter, the Star Wars 2 litter — to celebrate the 3 year anniversary of my rattery! Her 6 beautiful & phenomenally fat beans are almost 4 weeks old now and just little bundles of absolute joy! She gave us three standard or satin coats, and three rexoids: two what seem to be lustrous rex coats, and one lustrous velveteen <3 I could not be happier! One of the lustrous rexes, Padmé, will be staying here with us and be fundamental to the next generation of my House line combo’ed with the Maryland line! It’s in the air atm if I’ll keep Luke- the other lustrous rex- to replace his father, BSS Buddy Holly, who is retiring.

I think that’s it for now! Tune in next time for another planned update later this month.
